Quartz is an Engineered Stone to withstand daily life

Quartz countertop material is actually an engineered stone product. The product contains as much as 93% quartz particles and other minerals. It is shaped into slabs and bound with resins. These are not solid slabs naturally found.

Quartz is offered by companies such as DuPont Zodiaq®, LG Viatera®, Cambria , and Silestone®. Quartz was created as an alternative to granite and marble to have improved performance. It is nonporous surface that resists both scratching and staining and is available in a wider range of colors than granite. Quartz requires no annual sealing, unlike natural stone.

Pros:

  • Able to be custom-fabricated to any size and shape
  • No sealing required means very low maintenance
  • High performance; stain, heat, and acid resistant

Laminates are plastic-coated synthetics with surface that’s easy to clean.

Various brands of laminate counters are available such as Formica, Nevamar, and Wilsonart. Countertops are fabricated by using particle board (MDF) cores and bonding the laminate sheets to it. Laminate countertops can be fabricated to specifications on-site or in a fabrication shop. They can also be purchased as pre-formed segments.

Regarded as a lower quality than your more premium countertop materials, but laminates offer thousands of colors, and patterns so they may be the best option to get the look you want.
